India’s Two New International Airports Are Almost Ready to Open

The wait is almost over, as two major international airports are set to open in 2025, marking a significant shift in how we travel in the coming year. Officials have confirmed that Navi Mumbai International Airport will launch mid-year, while Noida International Airport at Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, is scheduled to open in the third week of April 2025.

Navi Mumbai International Airport

The long-awaited second international airport for Mumbai, located in Navi Mumbai, is expected to open in April 2025, as per the airport authorities. The first phase will include one terminal, one runway, and a full-length parallel taxiway. Ultimately, the airport will feature four terminals and two runways, significantly increasing the capacity of Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Situated near Panvel on the outskirts of Mumbai, this new airport will also benefit passengers from Pune, who currently face limited flight options and often travel via Mumbai, adding almost five extra hours to their journey. The airport is being developed by Adani Airport Holdings Ltd, the same company that manages Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Details on the specific airlines and routes operating from this new airport are still unclear.

Noida International Airport

Noida International Airport is confirmed to open on April 17, 2025, and will begin operations in phases. The first phase will feature one terminal, one runway, 10 aerobridges, and 25 parking stands. Initially, the airport is expected to handle 65 flights daily, with 62 domestic, two international, and one cargo flight. IndiGo and Akasa Air have already confirmed their presence at the airport. According to Arun Vir Singh, CEO of Noida International Airport Ltd, the international flights will include routes to Zurich, Singapore, and Dubai, while domestic services will connect to cities such as Lucknow, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Dehradun, and Hubli. The Noida airport is highly anticipated, with its development being overseen by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a 100% subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG.
